Begin an unforgettable journey through the heart of Morocco with our 4-day desert excursion from Fez to Marrakech. Traverse the Atlas Mountains, explore the ancient medinas, and immerse yourself in the magic of the Sahara Desert. Witness stunning landscapes, encounter nomadic tribes, and indulge in traditional Berber hospitality as you venture from Fez to Merzouga. Spend nights under the starlit sky in desert camps, surrounded by the tranquility of the Sahara. Discover hidden oases, historic kasbahs, and vibrant markets along the way. With comfortable accommodations, expert guides, and immersive experiences, this tour promises to be a captivating adventure through the diverse landscapes and cultures of Morocco.
After the breakfast, we will leave Fez and go to Sahara Desert, passing through Wazzane and Ifrane to arrive at the cedar forests of Azrou, with its wild monkeys. This is a good opportunity to take photos of wilderness in Morocco. We continue through the Atlas Mountains, enjoying the landscapes of Medelt, Tafilalat, with its 18th century Ksours, Ziz Valley, and Rissani (Old Sijilmassa), before arriving at the dunes of the Merzouga desert. After relaxing a few minutes with the nomads, we take the camel caravan through the sand dunes. You will spend the night in an equipped camp in the middle of the Sahara. You will enjoy the sunset, a plentiful traditional Berber dinner, and Berber drums, song, and dance around a campfire before spending the night in nomad luxury tents.
After breakfast, you will explore the desert area and the marvels of the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will have the opportunity to see the nomadic way of life and the contrasts of the desert. You will visit the black village of Khamlia to see the Gnawa musicians, and you will see a lake and oasis. For lunch, you will have a traditional Berber pizza in Rissani. We will have a small visit in Rissani (Old Sijilmassa), the first capital of Alaouite Dynasty. In the afternoon, we will return to the desert.
This morning, we will leave the desert scenery of the Sahara and drive to Tinerhir, once the outpost of a famed French Foreign legion. From Tinerhir, we will go to Todra Gorges. The road winds up between two impressive cliffs rising to 1000 feet. The almost completely vertical cliffs boast red, green and grey rocks. We will then continue to Kelaa des M’gouna.
As you leave Kelaa des M’gouna, you can see interesting kasbahs scatterd among palm trees, gardens, and orchards. The road gradually gains altitude, and the palms give way to fig, pomegranate, and almond trees. We will stop to see the palm grove at Skoura, one of the most picturesque places in the south. We continue through the Dades Valley to Ouarzazate, arriving in time for lunch. After a short visit of Ouarzazate, you will enjoy an interesting drive over Tizi N’tichka pass, in the heart of the mighty Atlas Mountains, to the imperial city of Marrakech, the “red pearl of the south”. Marrakech, once the crossroads of the Arab, Berber, and Sudanese civilizations, is today a mixture of a biblical Arab atmosphere and a modern jet scene, with a delightful French flavor.
